Indians Compete in SWC Tourney Semifinals
13-1 Minden rolled over Ogallala, 25-57, in the semifinals of the SWC tournament on Monday night. Minden, rated 5th in the state in Saturday's Lincoln Journal-Star C-1 Boys basketball ratings, jumped to a double-digit lead in the 2nd quarter and didn't look back. Minden will face Valentine in the Finals on Saturday night in Lexington.
The Lady Indians Basketball team lost to Ainsworth by 20 points at home last Saturday. What a difference a couple days can make! The Ogallala girls beat Ainsworth, 45-42, in an intense game on the road on Monday night in the Tournament's first round. Their next game will also be on the road; the team will face SWC semifinal foe Valentine on Friday.
Ogallala Boys also notched a solid road win in the first-round of the SWC Tournament on Monday night, defeating the Class B Haymakers, 66-52. Cozad won their first contest back on January 6th, 53-69.

Recycling Rally Update
Thanks to all the recent sporting events at the Auditorium, the help of all the school custodians and the community depositing recyclables in the dumpster on the west side of the Aud., Ogallala is now ranked 20th nationally in the DreamMaching Recycling Rally! According to Coordinator Rodney Howe, students have have collected over 45,000 items and recycled them properly.
Being in the top 20 gives Ogallala a very good chance at winning money for our schools (thousands are available). Follow our progress online at dreammachinerecyclerally.com and look for the leaderboard and search for Ogallala Middle School.

Activity Results
- Ogallala Speech team went to the Bulldog Speech Invite this last weekend, in Gering. Ogallala again came home with the 2nd place trophy. The following students came home with medals:
-Poetry: Rachel Bauer, 2nd; Kurt Lawler, 3rd; & Micah Most, 5th
-Serious Prose: Lou McQuillan, 1st
-Persuasive Speaking: Phoebe Lockhart, 4th
-Extemporaneous Speaking: Phoebe Lockhart, 1st
-Informative Speaking: Kurt Lawler, 5th
Next weekend the team competes in the Perkins Country Speech Meet in Grant, which starts at 8:00am - Michael Gill won the 220 pound weight class at the Chadron Invitational wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday. Michael went 5 -0 to win with a pin in the finals over Josh Hunt of Douglas South Dakota in 5:48. Other wrestlers competing for Ogallala were Luke Tinnon 1-2, James Garcia 1-2, Colt Washa 2-2, and Brody Cleveland 1-2.
- Ogallala Boys Basketball traveled to Alliance and picked up the win against the Class B foe, 60-53, on Friday night. The team lost a close game at home against Ainsworth the following night, however, 43-46. The Girls Basketball team dropped lost both nights at Alliance and against Ainsworth.
Both teams will be competing in the SWC Turnament the week of the 23rd. - The Ogallala Speech team took home the second place trophy on Saturday at the Scottsbluff Invitational, their first meet of the season.

- 2nd place: Phoebe Lockhart- Extemp, Alex Rudolph and Maddie McQuillan- Improv Duet, Lou McQuillan- Serious Prose
- 3rd place: Lou McQuillan and Nate Baldwin- Improv Duet, Kurt Lawler- Poetry
- 4th place: Emma Schoer and Christine Allen- Improv Duet, Jordan Geisert- Entertainment, Micah Most- Poetry
- 5th place: McLain Wunschel- Humorous Prose - Ogallala wrestlers finished 4th place at the Chase County Invite. Colt Washa, Tyson Lanka and Brody Cleveland took 2nd in their weight divisions and Luke Tinnon and Michael Gill earned 3rd. Elkanah Riley and James Gacia finished in 4th place.
Youth Cheer Camp Set.
The Youth Cheerleading Camp will be held on Saturday, February 4th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Students from Preschool to 5th Grade are invited to participate.
